CABINET FIXES LOCATION OF HIGH COURTS

In what appears to indicate Nepal formally entering adopting the federal form of governance, the Council of Ministers on Wednesday has set the locations for the high courts. According to government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki, the Cabinet has decided to locate high courts in Biratnagar (Morang) for province no 1, Janakpur (Dhanusha) for province no 2, Patan (Lalitpur) for province no 3, Pokhara (Kaski) for province no 4, Tulsipur (Dang) for province no 5, Surkhet for province no 6 and Dipayal for province no 7 until the capital city of the provinces is fixed. The Council of Ministers has also decided to expand the bench of high courts in accordance with the provinces. Accordingly, the high court benches will be stationed at Biratnagar, Ilam, Dhankuta and Okhaldhunga in province no 1, Rajbiraj, Janakpur and Birgunj in province no 2, Hetauda and Patan in province no 3, Pokhara and Baglung in province no 4, Butwal, Tulsipur and Nepalgunj in province no 5, Jumla and Surkhet in province no 6 and Mahendranagar and Dipayal in province no 7. The Council of Ministers has suggested the Prime Minister to not sign any new treaty which could have long-term consequences and raise the issue of benefits which Nepal was supposed and yet to get from the previous bilateral treaties. -
